It’s difficult to find reasonably priced accommodation to rent in Cuenca, so we were pleasantly surprised to see a notice of studios for rent outside what appeared to be an office building half a block from Parque Calderon.
We were out of luck with studios, but the owner showed us a massive apartment with 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and fully equipped kitchen, washing machine, bed linen, towels and electricity all included for $400 per month. It had been converted from an office, complete with suspended ceilings, but - OH MY GOD - the view from the bedrooms was AWESOME. Yes, I know I’m shouting, but you will understand when you see the photo.
When the cathedral of the Immaculate Conception was built, the final stage was to be the mounting of the bell towers at the front of the building. But whilst estimating the weight of these towers for lifting into place it was discovered that they were so heavy that they would cause the supporting part of the building to collapse. So from the front, the cathedral looks somewhat unfinished, but from the side - the building occupies a whole block - one can see, or should I say we can see the magnificent domes in all their brick and blue glory.
